Open Question: What are my chances to get an apartment when I'm in the process of house foreclosure?
Me and my wife have a good credit record but I'm pretty sure foreclosure is going to hurt our credit record. more…
Hi, I've lost my job and face foreclosure. I am only one month behind in my payments, but I haven't been able to find a job for 4 months and all my savings is gone. The house is also in need of major repairs so it isn't sellable and I obviously can't rent it out. My question is, is it wise for me to contact my mortgage company? I don't have a high interest rate, I am simply unemployed, (I've already found a place to stay with a friend.) I bought the house in 1992 and raised my kids here, I hate to leave it, but I will have no choice. The foreclosure process terrifies me. I know my credit will be bad, but I can live with that. I am worried that the mortgage co. will sue me and ruin me financially for life or rake me over the coals in court. I've been trying to sell the house for the mortgage payoff, but no one wants a house that needs repairs. I need advice. **Please do not try to send me to your "get rick quick" links. I've worked on the internet for 10 years, I know what a scam is. **Thanks–yes, I know I am not actually in foreclosure yet. I had to refinance my house 5 years ago when another company I worked for suddenly shut down and my fiance's cancer at the time got really bad. (he had no one else to take care of him) –I ended up with low paying jobs for a couple of years after he died and refinanced to catch up on bills. That is why I still owe a good sized mortgage. I don't have the best of luck, ha,ha… ***rayt721, thanks for the sentiments. I don't trust mortgage companies or banks for that matter. I've seen what they do to people. So yes, I am not going to just call them unless I have to. I am not asking my mortgage company to help me. I am unemployed and they can't help me. Of course I am still job hunting, but I also have to make plans because it is obviously not going well. I live in a working poor, very suppressed town in Central FL. Our unemployment rate is already at 6%. Businesses are closing down here left and right, and I am simply not going to just sit around and wait for the banks to come after me. My house is in need of repairs, I can't ask some to live in it for safety reasons. My friend has his own place with a lower mortgage so why would he want to live in my house? I can't rent the place out because it is in need of repair and I would be liable. I don't have TIME to start my own business. I also can't support a household with a part time job. Don't you think I have thought of all your suggestions? I don't recall saying I was an idiot. BTW a bankruptcy does not save one's house. If you read my question you would see that I am unemployed. That is the problem. Oh this also would not be a good time to get a home equity loan… Sell things, ha,ha–One cannot save their house with a yard-sale either… Thanks Monika, you made me feel a little better. I have never missed a rent or mortgage payment since 1980, and this all stresses me out…. kjay–I would never let my mortgage company I lost my job when I first did. That is idiotic. Only contact them when you have to. A payment plan doesn't help when you don't have an income, I never said I had a high payment and ta-da - it is a little hard to work 24 hours a day when THERE ARE NO JOBS…I'm sure my child would also like to see me sometime's too. Really you shouldn't respond to financial questions unless you are even a little qualified to answer. more…
